Magistrate Upbeat About NEC Buchanan Seminar

By Philip T. Singbah, LINA Bong County Correspondent

GBARNGA, May 16 (LINA) - The Senior Magistrate of the National Elections Commission (NEC) Upper Bong County office, Daniel Newland, has described the commission’s recent training held in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County as a remarkable initiative in strengthening the legal capacity of election magistrates.

The NEC week-long legal seminar brought together its magistrates from across the country.

Newland said the NEC magistrates were basically taught handling of complaints, investigative procedures and the management of conflict issues emanating from the election, among others.

Newland has, meanwhile, called on Liberians to attach seriousness to the upcoming exhibition on the provisional voter roll update to secure their participation in the October Presidential and Legislative elections.

He said unlike the past, the commission’s current regulations require all registrants to turnout for the exhibition, adding that voter cards with problems after the final voter roll will not be allowed to vote on elections day.

Newland spoke recently when he appeared on the Election Watch program on Radio Gbarnga.

NEC has set June 12-17 for the exhibition of the provisional voter registration roll with civic voter education on the process commencing May 18 to June 17.
