Bong Citizens Endorse VP Boakai For President

By Ballah M. Kollie

MONROVIA, May16 (LINA) – Citizens of Bong County have endorsed Lofa County’s plea for support of their son, Vice President Joseph N. Boakai, for the presidency, vowing to ensure a one-round victory for the Vice President in the October general and presidential polls.

Speaking on behalf of Bong County citizens, Senator Henry Yallah recounted the cultural ties that exist between the two counties, adding that the Vice President is the best among the rest of the candidates in the race for the presidency.

He recalled that more than a year ago, the people of Lofa requested Bong’s support for the election of their son and that Sunday’s gathering was in response to that plea after a period of consultations.

“This is a process that is aimed at liberating and reclaiming the country as a people,” he noted.

Overwhelmed by the euphoria at the occasion that pulled one of, if not the highest, political crowds ever in the history of the county, Senator Yallah revealed that the mission of the support to Ambassador Boakai is to provide for the common people to be part of the decision-making process by deciding who leads the country.

The endorsement of Boakai’s presidential bid by the people of Bong is the third in less than a week, as he was endorsed by former foreign minister Augustine Ngafuan on Wednesday, May 10, and majority senators on Thursday, May 11 and Bong on Sunday, May 14.

“Today is a historic day and as Bong County responds to the request of Lofa County, there shall be only one round in these elections,” Yallah indicated.

Responding, Vice President Boakai described the Bong citizens’ response as well-intentioned, and one that comes out of sincerity which he believes and trusts.

According to him, whatever enters Bong never leaves the same but is made better than what it was when the county entered.

He lauded prominent sons and daughters of Bong County, including former Health Minister Walter Gwenigale, who in difficult times served their country with commitment and still believe in its future.

He then promised to justify the confidence reposed in him, stating, “All of you who are working, your names are with me.”

Sunday’s endorsement program was graced by thousands of supporters, including those who came from Nimba, Lofa, Margibi and Montserrado Counties.

The program, which was organized by a cross-section of citizens of Bong County, was held at the David Kuyon Sports Stadium in Gbarnga City.
