MOC Official Calls For Standard Drinking Water

By Calvin Brooks

MONROVIA, May 9 (LINA) - The Director of the National Standards Laboratory at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has stressed the need for the production of standardized packaged drinking water in Liberia.

Director Stephen Y. Mambu stated that standardization of drinking water will ensure safe and quality drinking water in the country.

He made the call Monday at a technical meeting of technicians for the joint inspection and mapping exercise of packaged drinking water held at the Health Ministry in Congo Town, outside Monrovia.

He indicated that the regulations will require companies to obtain permits before they can commence operation.

He pointed out that companies that are operating now will also go through the process of regulation to ensure that safe drinking water is available on the Liberian market.

Director Mambu emphasized that the Ministry of Commerce and Industry will enhance its inspection regime to ensure that packaged drinking water is safe for the public.
