U.S. Embassy Officials Meeting Presidential Aspirants

MONROVIA, May 6 (LINA) - Officials of the United States Embassy near Monrovia have begun holding private discussions with presidential aspirants of political parties who wish to engage with the embassy.

In a release issued by the Embassy on Friday, the first dialogue took place Friday with Cllr. Dr. Jallah Barbu of the New Liberia Party.

The U.S. Embassy will continue these dialogues in the weeks that follow in order to better understand the platforms, priorities, and philosophies of the aspirants.

Presidential aspirants expected to contest the October polls include Vice President Joseph Boakai of the ruling Unity Party; Sen. George Weah of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC); Alexander Cummings, Alternative National Congress (ANC), and Cllr. Charles Brumskine, Liberty Party.

Others are Benoni Urey of the All Liberian Party, Carlton Boah, independent candidate; Dr. J. Mills Jones, of the Movement for Economic Empowerment (MOVEE), among others.

The US Embassy said it hopes that Liberia holds a successful election that is free, fair, open and peaceful.

The release disclosed that the US officials' meetings with political aspirants will be closed to the press.
