Margibi Health Officer Confirms Lassa Fever Death
KAKATA, March 27 (LINA) - Margibi County Health Officer, Dr. Hawa Kromah, has confirmed reports of an outbreak of Lassa Fever in Kakata, Margibi County, and that the disease has claimed the life of a Nigerian UNMIL officer.
Speaking in an interview with the Liberia News Agency at the C.H. Rennie Memorial Hospital in Kakata Thursday, Dr. Kromah said suspected cases were reported from the UNMIL Field Office in Kakata among soldiers of the Nigerian Army, NIBATT 26, Alpha Company.
Dr. Kromah said the sickness has claimed the life of a Nigerian soldier while about 14 others, including three civilians, are also being treated for the ailment.
She said the soldier was brought to the hospital late, something that caused his untimely death.
Dr. Kromah said blood samples were taken from the affected persons by the World Health Organization for analyses and the hospital is still awaiting the results.
