Bong Health Officer Hails Africare Support To 38 Clinics

By Philip T. Singbah, LINA Bong County Correspondent

GBARNGA, April 30 (LINA) - Bong County Health Officer Dr. G. Gorbee Logan, has praised Africare-Liberia, a leading non-governmental organization, for its immense support to 38 clinics in the county.

Dr. Logan also hailed Africare for its support to the Outpatient Departments (OPD) at the Phebe and C.B Dunbar hospitals in Suakoko and Gbarnga City.

Dr. Logan explained that Africare-Liberia has renovated several clinics, including the Dekei Clinic in Fuamah District, and has at the same time provided motorcycles, drugs and incentives for support staff at those clinics as part of its support to the county health system.

He said Africare has also constructed nine maternal “waiting homes” in the county, which have significantly contributed to the fight against maternal and neonatal deaths in the county.

The “waiting homes” are situated near health facilities where pregnant women nearing labor are hosted and given timely medical care and essential nutrition by trained midwives until they give birth.

Dr. Logan said the county health team recognizes Africare’s support to the county’s health system, and will continue to work with its management to meet the health needs of the people.

He described the maternal waiting homes as “a great achievement in the fight against maternal mortality” in the county, adding, “These maternal waiting homes have further enhanced access to health delivery in the county.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Logan has called on community residents to support the center by taking their pregnant women to the clinic before delivery to reduce maternal mortality in the county.

Africare is committed to addressing African development and policy issues by working in partnership with the African people to build sustainable, healthy and productive communities.

Africare-Liberia Country Director Ernest K. Gaie, said his entity’s expertise aims at capacity-building, community engagement, locally-driven behavior change, public-private partnerships, technical specialties, agriculture & food security, health, HIV & AIDS, among others.

These activities, he said, are implemented under the cross-cutting themes, such as Economic Development, Nutrition, Water, Sanitation & Hygiene, Women and Youth Empowerment.
