Use Judicial Process,’ Piah Advises Korkoya’s accusers

By Wilfred Gortor

MONROVIA, April 20 (LINA) - Presidential Press Secretary Jerolinmik Piah has advised those accusing the Chairman of the National Elections Commission (NEC), Cllr. Jerome Korkoya, of being a United States citizen to utilize the judicial process for proper redress to the matter.

Piah said the Executive Mansion has not been informed by any of those accusing the NEC boss of being a U.S. citizen.

Piah’s comment, which seems to be the first coming out of the Executive Mansion on the Korkoya saga, was published on Wednesday in a local daily.

It followed earlier comments from the NEC chairman who also urged his accusers to take the matter to court, rather than take it to the newspapers, radio talk shows and the social media.

Korkoya has in recent times become the center of attention, having been accused of being an American citizen, an accusation which when proven, will contravene Section 2.3 of the Election Law of Liberia.

Section 2.3 of the Elections Law states: "Every Commissioner of NEC shall be a Liberian."

A release issued by the NEC recently quoted Korkoya as affirming that he is a Liberian citizen and denying bearing two passports.

In an interview with the VOA "Day Break Africa" program on Monday, he challenged those accusing him of being a citizen of the United States of America to go to court.

Piah said the Executive Mansion is following the discussions on the allegation surrounding Korkoya's citizenship, noting that it will be prudent for his accusers to take the matter to court in order to put it to rest.
