LNP Assures Female Contestants Of Full Protection

By Robert Dixon

MONROVIA, April 17 (LINA) - Police Inspector General Gregory Coleman has assured women vying in the October elections of full police protection during their campaign process.

Police spokesman Sam Collins quoted Inspector General Coleman as saying that the Liberia National Police was under obligation to provide an enabling environment that will encourage women to participate in the pending elections, describing them as an important contributor to the current peace the country is experiencing.

Collins told the Liberia News Agency in an interview Monday that the Police

Chief made the statement over the weekend in Gbarnga, Bong County where he met with over 100 women who are aspiring for legislative seats and their campaign managers.

According to him, Coleman said the police will not favor any group of people over another, but will provide equal opportunity for all people, including women who intend to participate in the electoral process.

Collins said that the Police boss admonished the women to be peaceful during the electioneering process, adding that the upcoming elections are very crucial to the survival of the country’s emerging democracy.

He said the Police Chef encouraged them to alert the police on any issue of insecurity that they encounter during the electoral period, stressing that the police will deal with anyone who will want to create an atmosphere of insecurity for women.

“We will do all we can to protect you, but we also ask you to support our move of promoting peaceful elections, which is good for our country,” Inspector General Coleman is quoted as saying.
