Commerce Ministry Aiding Vegetable Farmers Access Market
By Ballah M. Kollie
MONROVIA, April 9 (LINA) – Deputy Commerce Minister for Small Business Administration, Andrew Paegar, has said “The Liberia Marketplace” at the Nancy B. Doe Market in Sinkor is an initiative of the ministry intended to help farmers bring their goods to the market.
“On the second and last Saturday of each month, vegetable farmers bring their goods here for sale. So we want the public to come here on these days to buy their vegetables,” he recommended.
Paegar said the initiative is also aimed at creating access to market for farmers because if they have no access to market, their produce will not sell, thereby frustrating their efforts.
“The Liberia Market Place” occupies the yard and top floor of the Nancy Doe Market with the vegetable component on in the yard while those making up some of the country’s best100 businesses are on the top floor of the building.
The Commerce Ministry official then lauded the Japanese Government for funding the rehabilitation of the facility.
He also hailed the Liberia Agribusiness Development Activity (LADA) for lending assistance to aggregators through the provision of grants and loans to some persons in the sector.
He described LADA’s support to aggregators as one that enhances links between them and farmers as well as increases their financial capacity.
