China To Train AFL Engineering Battalion

MONROVIA Dec.6 (LINA) – Out-going Chinese Ambassador Zhao Jianhua has pledged his government’s commitment to the training of the Engineering Battalion of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL).

Making the disclosure when he paid a courtesy call on Information Minster Lewis Browne at his Capitol Hill Office Thursday, Ambassador Zhao said the training of the Engineering Battalion of the AFL is part of his government’s effort to maintain the bilateral ties between China and Liberia.

.According to the Chinese envoy, this is the first of its kind for China to train members of any country’s army in Engineering.

In a related development, Ambassador Zhao has disclosed that China has agreed to give a vessel to the Liberian government that will be allowed to sail on the territorial waters of China.

The Chinese envoy reaffirmed his government’s commitment to complete the three development projects it signed with the Liberian government, including the refurbishing of the Monrovia Vocational Training Center (MVTC), Samuel K. Doe Sports Complex and the construction of a Ministerial Complex.

In remarks, Information Minister Browne lauded the outgoing Chinese ambassador for the valuable services he rendered the people of Liberia during his tour of duty in the country.

Minister Browne cited the scholarships provided to hundreds of Liberians to study in China, the Ambassador’s personal and continuous assistance to the Tourism and Culture departments of the ministry as some major contributions the Chinese envoy made in Liberia.
