First State Witness In Mercenary Trial Testifies

By Richard Stephens

MONROVIA, March 26 (LINA) -The first witness in the case involving the 18 alleged mercenaries Tuesday took the stand to testify against the defendants at the Criminal Court ‘D’ in Monrovia.

Witness Pascal Kollie identified four persons among the accused, Nyezee Barway, Edward Cole, Kai Cole and Prince Youtay as the orchestrators of the cross-border attack into Ivory Coast.

He further told the court that Nyezee Barway led the invading force across the Liberian-Ivorian border and that he (Barway) served as recruiting officer for the force.

Kollie explained that the first meeting of the alleged mercenaries was held in Barway’s village called Garleo Town in Grand Gedeh County, adding that he Pascal Kollie served as agent at that meeting.

Witness Kollie further emphasized that weapons used for the operation were brought in through Ziah Town, Konobo District in Grand Gedeh County.

Meanwhile, the prosecution says that during the court trial co- defendant Christopher Lakpayee, will be tried with the other accused.

Lakpayee was among the first persons accused and arrested by state security and incarcerated for more than three years without trial, for his alleged involvement in the alleged mercenary case.
