By Richard Baysah, LINA Margibi County Correspondent

KAKATA, March 25 (LINA) - Two Correction officers at the Kakata Central Prison have been disrobed and turned over to court for prosecution.

According to the Liberia News Agency, officers Joseph Saah Gbollie and Anthony Sati were disrobed, due to their alleged involvement in facilitating the escape of inmates from the Kakata Central Prison on February 13, 2014.

They are charged with criminal conspiracy and criminal facilitation under the new criminal procedure laws of Liberia.

According to court record, Officers Gbollie and Sati connived with an inmate, Maxwell Emmanuel Okorie, to help him escape from the prison after being convicted of armed robbery at the EcoBank branch in Kakata in November 2013.

Officers Gbollie and Sati are accused of receiving US$4,000 from the Nigerian through an account at the First International Bank, Liberia Limited.

Following an internal investigation conducted by the Ministry of Justice, it was established that the two officers were involved in conspiring and facilitating the escape of convict Okorie and 12 other inmates from the Kakata Central prison.

The officers are said to have received two separate sums which amount to the US$4,000.

If convicted, they will be sentenced for misdemeanor of the first degree, which is punishable by one year imprisonment.
