MONROVIA, Dec 6 (LINA) – The observance of International Anti-Corruption Day (IACD) this year will focus on youth participation in the fight against corruption in Liberia.

The global theme for the 2013 IACD is ‘’Zero Corruption, 100% Development, Strengthening Integrity Values through Youth Participation in the Fight Against Corruption”

The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) says the observance commences on Friday, December 6, with a Youth Integrity Forum featuring youths who represented Liberia at this year’s Anglophone West Africa youth Integrity camp in Lagos, Nigeria.

LACC disclosed that the 2013 program will be held in Kakata, Margibi County on Monday, December 9, and is being sponsored by the United Nations Development Programme, while activities have been planned by LACC, NIF and CSOs.

The program continues Saturday, December7, with soccer matches involving four schools in Kakata  -the Kakata Community College, Booker Washington Institute, St. Augustine Episcopal and Lango Lippaye high schools.

The celebration will be climaxed on Monday, December 9 with a parade through the principal streets of Kakata, to be followed by an indoor program expected to take place at the Kakata Sports Stadium.

The LACC says anti- corruption youth advocate, who is also the Founder and Executive Director of the Youth Exploring Solutions, Stephen Lavala, will serve as keynote speaker.

December 9 of each year is celebrated as International Anti-Corruption Day, marking the day the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted the UN Convention Against Corruption (UNAC) in 2003.
