New German President-elect Steinmeier Gets Pat From Pres. Sitleaf

MONROVIA, February 22 (LINA) - President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has sent a message of congratulations to Mr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President-elect of the Federal Republic of Germany.

According to a Foreign Ministry release, President Sirleaf, on behalf of the Government and people of Liberia and in her own name, extended heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Mr. Steinmeier and indicated that she was very delighted to congratulate him on his election as President of the Federal Republic of Germany.  

“You have assumed this great office at the time relations between our two countries have been strengthened considerably and our development cooperation has reached unprecedented heights,” the Liberian leader noted.

She added: “Germany remains a significant and reliable friend to Liberia and has been very supportive to its development efforts, particularly in critical sectors, including energy, infrastructure, and bio-diversity.”

President Sirleaf expressed optimism that given the numerous achievements the two countries’ partnership has realized, German-Liberian relations will experience new and elevated levels, which will add value to the already strong bilateral relations enjoyed by the peoples of both countries.

The Liberian leader indicated that she looks forward to working closely with the new German leader in promoting global peace and prosperity and also wished for President-elect Steinmeier personal success in his new and demanding responsibility.
