Pres. Sirleaf’s Ghana Invite For Monrovia, Not Accra
MONROVIA, February 15 (LINA) - The Foreign Ministry has clarified that the invitation extended to President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf to serve as ‘Guest of Honor’ at Ghana’s 60th Independence Anniversary was intended for Monrovia and not Accra, Ghana as reported earlier.
The Foreign Ministry in a press release issued on Friday, February 10, under the caption: “President Sirleaf Invited to Serve as ‘Guest of Honor’ at Ghana’s 60th Independence Anniversary” had reported that the venue was Accra, the Ghanaian capital.
The ministry said Ghanaian Ambassador Kodjo Asimeng Wadee, who will also be observing his country’s historic sexagenarian anniversary at a reception here in Monrovia, saw it befitting to extend an official invitation to President Sirleaf, who is also Chair of the ECOWAS Authority to serve as ‘Guest of Honor’.
Invitations were also extended to Vice President Joseph N. Boakai, Foreign Minister Marjon Kamara and senior Foreign Ministry officials to attend the celebrations here in Monrovia and not Accra, Ghana as reported.
The invitations were hand delivered to Foreign Minister Kamara when the Ghanaian Ambassador paid her a courtesy call on Thursday, February 9.
