Red Cross Hails Broadcasters On World Radio Day

MONROVIA, February 13 (LINA) - The Liberia National Red Cross Society (LNRCS) has hailed the Liberian media for its numerous sacrifices in providing credible and lifesaving information to citizens of the country.

World Radio Day is annually observed on February 13 to celebrate radio and how it helps shape our lives.

A Liberian Red Cross release says despite huge challenges the media has been professionally robust in its reportage on humanitarian issues and other ills affecting people in the communities.

It recognizes that the media as a strong partner in advocating for the wellbeing of vulnerable people and building a peaceful and resilient society.

The Red Cross has for the past years used radio to reach out to over one million people in Liberia with lifesaving information.

In 2016, the Liberian Red Cross signed contract with nine radio stations, including the Liberia Broadcasting System and eight community radio stations in the counties and produced the total of 159 editions of programs from August to December.

The Red Cross believes Information is not a wish but a real demand, adding that it has been using the radio to send out immediate lifesaving information to people to actually understand and act when the unthinkable happens.

Meanwhile, the Red Cross is challenging the media to keep focusing on what affects the lives of the community and highlighting humanitarian needs to inspire government and other partners to increase support to vulnerable people as the humanitarian landscape is becoming more complex and demand more support.
