LNP Records 1,789 Accident Cases In 2016

MONROVIA, January 18 (LINA) - Statistics released by the Liberia National Police (LNP) has put the total number of accidents in Liberia during 2016 at 1,789.

According to the LNP statistics, out of the total number, 232 accidents occurred in Monrovia and its environs in Montserrado County, while 1,557 took place in the remaining counties.

The statistics, a copy of which is in the possession of the Liberia News Agency, unveiled that out of the recorded accident cases, Monrovia recorded the death of only one driver, while a total of 57 drivers lost their lives in the remaining 14 counties.

The statistics also recorded two pedestrian deaths in the Monrovia area and a total of 53 in the counties.

It put the total number of injured drivers in Monrovia and its surroundings at 36, while the remaining counties accounted for 522 injured drivers.

The LNP Accidents Statistics indicated that 48 occupants (passengers) got injured in the Monrovia area, while the number of occupants sustaining injuries in the remaining counties is put at 804.

"Some 24 pedestrians sustained injuries in Monrovia and its surroundings, while the remaining counties recorded a total of 219 pedestrian injuries," the report noted.

It says, 11 out of the total injury cases were sent to court in Monrovia, while 129 of the cases recorded from the remaining counties were forwarded to court.
