Deputy Defense Minister Extols Ghanaian Armed Forces

MONROVIA, January 14 (LINA) - Deputy Defence Minister Joseph F. Johnson has extolled the Armed Forces of Ghana for its numerous contributions towards the peace and stability that Liberians now enjoy.

Minister Johnson said the Ghana Armed Forces and Ghanaians played a meaningful role in bringing peace and tranquility to Liberia, especially during the height of the civil crisis which lasted from1989 to 2003.

According to a Ministry of Defense release, Minister Johnson made the commendation Thursday when a Ghanaian military delegation headed by Major General William Azure Ayamdo, paid him a courtesy visit at the Barclay Training Center in Monrovia.

He said Ghanaian Military officers have been very helpful in mentoring personnel of the Armed Forces of Liberia, and praised the military-to-military relationship existing between the two armies, resulting into AFL officers being trained at the Ghana Command and General Staff College.

Deputy Minister Johnson informed General Ayamdo that Liberia is moving towards leadership transition few months from now and hoped that whoever succeeds the current leadership at the Ministry of National Defense will sustain the bilateral ties existing between the two armies.

In remarks, the head of the visiting Ghanaian delegation, Major General Ayamdo, thanked authorities of the Ministry of National Defense for the kind reception accorded him during his visit.

General Ayamdo said his visit to Liberia is intended to assess the welfare of Ghanaian military personnel serving in UNMIL as well as ECOWAS officers working alongside the Armed Forces of Liberia.

The Ghanaian General assured authorities of the Ministry of National Defense and the Armed Forces of Liberia that the Ghanaian military stands ready to further partner with the Armed Forces of Liberia in fighting terrorism, piracy and other crimes at the regional level.
