Prexy Gono Wants Nimba College Granted Full Degree Status
By S. Kannay Ziamo, LINA Nimba County Correspondent

GANTA, January 11 (LINA) - The President of the Nimba County Community College (NCCC), Dr. Yah Gono, is calling on the Government of Liberia to consider elevating the college to a full degree granting institution.

Speaking to a team of reporters in the county recently, Dr. Gono said government can do this by stepping up its budgetary support to the school to enable the administration recruit more qualified faculty and purchase some instructional materials.

Dr. Gono disclosed that the school has a huge enrolment of over 1,500 students, which makes it one of the most populated community colleges in the country and as such the government should consider elevating it to a full degree granting institution.

“The administration, faculty and staff of the college are willing and prepared to help government transform the school to a full degree granting institution; we are in high spirit to support this initiative,” the NCCC President added.

She noted that since the establishment of the institution in 2011, it has had two successful graduations, with over 400 young Liberians walking out of the walls of the institution with Associate of Arts degrees (AA) in over 12 disciplines.

According to her, the college is experiencing an increase in enrolment annually due to the huge number of high schools in the county, noting that elevating it to a full-fledged degree granting institution will save many high school graduates the stress of seeking higher education out of the county.

Meanwhile, the NCCC President has praised the faculty and staff of the institution for working tirelessly to prepare students enrolling in the school.
