Speaker Nuquay Nudges Coordination To Achieve Development
By Wilfred Gortor

MONROVIA, January 9 (LINA) - House Speaker Emmanuel Nuquay has re-emphasized the need for proper coordination among the three branches of government, terming it as "the way forward in doing the work of the Liberian people."

"There is no need to be at loggerheads or to engage in unnecessary confrontations over matters that can be easily resolved. The work of our branches of government it inextricably linked," Nuquay said.

Nuquay believes that the three branches of government must coordinate and not confront each other, noting that working collaboratively with the President of Liberia and the Executive branch of government does not mean the legislature is or will be a rubber stamp.

Speaking Monday at the opening of the 6th and final session of the 53rd Legislature in the chambers of the House of Representatives, Speaker Nuquay observed that collaboration among the branches of government only enhances their collective efforts as leaders to do those things that are necessary in impacting the lives of the Liberian people.

"We want to make it absolutely clear that the legislature will maintain its independence in the discharge of its duties under the Constitution, but we will do so in coordination with the other branches of our government in the interest of our people," he said.

According to Nuquay, the legislature in its harmonization with the executive, taking into consideration the gains the government has made, the legislature will work to maintain the nation's trajectory towards growth and development.

He noted that the legislature will ensure that the national budget for the 2017/2018 fiscal period is passed in time and becomes operational by July 1, 2017.

This, according to him, is necessary because the most part of 2017 will be characterized by heightened political activities.

Nuquay said as the President is poised to deliver her annual message in which she will traditionally make known her final legislative programs for the country, the legislature stands ready to expeditiously deal with those programs and ensure the successful implementation of those goals.
