Gov’t delivers annual economic transformation report

BUCHANAN, March 23 (LINA) - The Government of Liberia says it has embarked on the development of major road transport infrastructure aimed at implementing the economic revitalization pillar of the Agenda for Transformation (AFT).

The disclosure was made by Minister of Finance Amara Konneh, who is Chairman of the Steering Committee of the AFT, when he presented his Agenda for Transformation first annual report in Buchanan, Grand Bassa over the weekend.

Minister Konneh said the Government, through the Liberia Road Asset Management Project (LBRAMP), which connects Red Light-Ganta -Guinea
is one of Government's vital infrastructure interventions that is geared towards reducing transport cost along Liberia's main economic corridor.

According to Minister Konneh, under the LBRAMP Project, which is divided into two phases, roads constructed will be maintained for the next 10 years, according to the Liberia News Agency.

He said the first phase of the road is the rehabilitation of the 180.6 km stretch of road from Red Light to Gbarnga, while the second phase is the 68.6km road from Ganta to the Guinea border.

The Finance Ministry boss told the assembly that the project is currently being executed under Output and Performance-Based Road Contract (OPRC) and Design, Build Maintain Operate and Transfer (DBMOT) methodology, a system responsible to maintain the roads for over seven years before they are turned over to the Government.

He put the value of both projects at US$166.10 million and US$70.9 million respectively, with part of the Red Light-to-Gbarnga Road substantially completed.

He disclosed that Government has paid US$2,386,177 to residents who were affected as a result of involuntary displacement of their properties.

Meanwhile, Minister Konneh has named a number of road projects that have been executed by the Government under its Agenda for Transformation.

He cited the 12-km Caldwell-Louisiana Road, the 5.1 km SKD Boulevard Road, the 2.8km Police Academy Road, 6.6km AB Tolbert Road, the 4.2km Duport-to-Soul Clinic Road, the 1.1km Jamaica Road, the 1.6km Clara Town Road and the 4km Logan Town Road.

Minister Konneh said an estimated US$3,470, 574.13 has been disbursed by the Government for the rehabilitation work on the road connecting Kolahun-Vahun-Bomaru in Lofa County, under the AFT.

Minister Konneh also disclosed that road rehabilitation and construction interventions undertaken within the AFT framework also witnessed massive construction of key bridges, which include the the220ft Sanquin Bridge, the 290ft Mechlin River Bridge, 48ft Klay Bridge, 60ft Guie Town Bridge, 75 feet Konlah Bridge and the 385ft Caldwell Bridge.

The Liberian Finance Minister said the Government is engaging major stakeholders of the AFT, to seek financial support, as part of the AFT road infrastructure interventions under the Economic Transformation pillar ,aimed at integrating southeastern sections of the country through the rehabilitation of the Fish Town-Harper Road.
