Organizers Of “Miss Liberia” Blame Change Of Venue On Low Budget

By Catherine B. Nyenkan, LINA

MONROVIA, December 29 (LINA) - Organizers of the 2016/2017 Miss Liberia Beauty Pageant have said hosting this year’s event at the Destiny Entertainment Center on the Capitol By-Pass is due to limited budget.

Making the disclosure at the Ministry of Information regular press briefing in Monrovia on Thursday, Miss Bendu Johnson, head of Eleven Stripes, the body hosting the event, said it was moved from its regular Unity Conference Center venue in Brewerville due to limited funding.

“We are running this year’s event with a budget of US$30,000 which is not enough to prepare the Conference Center and carry out other preparations for the successful holding of the 2016/2017 Miss Liberia Beauty Pageant,” Miss Johnson noted.

Liberians in many quarters have complained that the venue is too small to host this year’s pageant due to the influx of people who usually grace the occasion and that the new venue is situated in the densely populated Monrovia City center.

Miss Johnson has, however, assured Liberians that the organizers have put the necessary mechanisms into place to ensure that the event goes on successfully and as planned.

She explained that this year’s Miss Liberia Beauty Pageant, which is being held under the theme “Beautiful Minds and Everything Liberian,” is intended to showcase and promote young talented Liberians.

“Because the pageant is geared towards promoting Liberians, only Liberian artists will be performing at the event on Friday, December 30,” Johnson said.
