NEC targeting 2.5 million Voters For Registration

MONROVIA, December 20(LINA) - The Chairman of the National Elections Commission (NEC), Jerome G. Korkoya, has disclosed that NEC is targeting 2.5 million eligible Liberians to register in 2017.

Chairman Korkoya stated that this figure is based on the Liberia Geo-information Services and Statistics population projections.

The NCE boss made the statement Tuesday at a program marking the official launch of the civic and voter education campaign for the voter registration process held at the commission in Sinkor outside Monrovia.

He indicated that to achieve this target, the Commission has trained and deployed 438 civic educators and 219 Gender Mobilizers across the country.

He explained that the civic education messages will be disseminated based on the toolkit developed by the commission which is a standardized tool.

Chairman Korkoya stressed that NEC is prepared to undertake this monumental task and want to extend sincere thanks and appreciation to the Government of Liberia for its continued support to the work of the Commission.

He noted that in spite of current budgetary and economic constraints, the government has tried as best as it can to meet some of the funding needs of the commission.
