Over US$4bn To Upgrade NPA Infrastructure - Williams
By Wilfred Gortor

MONROVIA, December 13 (LINA) - Over US$4 billion is needed for infrastructural development of the National Port Authority (NPA), Managing Director David Williams has disclosed.

Williams said this amount will cover the Freeport of Monrovia and the ports of Buchannan, Sinoe and Harper.

Making the disclosure Monday at the Free Port of Monrovia following a round-table discussion with officials of the US-based Georgia Port Authority, Williams told journalists that the NPA is currently exerting efforts towards achieving this developmental goal.

At the same time, Williams has disclosed that the NPA had held talks with the Ministry of Public Works for the possible development of an in-land port to enhance trade activities, noting that an assessment report from that discussion is expected to be released soon.

Meanwhile, Liberia's Honorary Consul General to the State of Georgia, Cynthia Blandford, has commended the management of the NPA for the tremendous achievements that the management has accomplished in its port system.

Blandford said the NPA management has done exceptionally well in improving its operations as well as its infrastructure.

Blandford said she was particularly impressed with the fact that her previous visit to the Freeport of Monrovia was discouraging, as the facilities were not favorable, adding, "Today I am back and seeing the repair that is being made me believe that the vision of the management is outstanding and I know that the future is very bright for the NPA."

According to Blandford, with the help of its American partner, the Georgia Port Authority, the NPA will have a more enhanced partnership that will further boost trade and commerce within the NPA.
