MICAT Official Assures ‘Prevailing Democratic Atmosphere Will Continue’
By Robert Dixon

MONROVIA, December 10 (LINA) - An official of the Liberian Government has assured that the prevailing democratic atmosphere in the country will continue.

Addressing the regular Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) press conference recently, Assistant Minister for Information Services, Willington Geevon Smith, expressed optimism that there will be a peaceful transition in the country in January 2018.

Assistant Minster Smith’s statement was in response to a recent statement made by a former officer of Charles Taylor’s security, John T. Richardson, who was quoted by a local daily as saying that there will be an interim government in Liberia in 2017.

Minister Smith maintained that the democratic space in Liberia is getting stronger and that the government will continue to provide a secure space for all Liberians to be heard and seen.

According to him, while the doomsday prophesies are coming, the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf-led Government is making serious and visible gains that will impact the lives of the Liberian people.

“As we speak, the pavement of the Somalia Drive from Freeport to Red-light has started, and the construction of the Capitol Building Annex project has commenced, while the construction of the Ministerial Complex in Congo Town has also started,” Smith pointed out.
