LACC To Celebrate Int’l Anti-Corruption Day
By Catherine B. Nyenkan

MONROVIA, December 8 (LINA) - Liberia will join the world tomorrow, December 9, to celebrate International Anti-Corruption Day.

Speaking at the Ministry of Information press briefing on Thursday, Aba Dolo, a Commissioner at the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC), said for this year’s observance, the LACC planned a week-long activity under the theme: “Unite Against Corruption for Development Peace and Security.”

Dolo explained that corruption attacks the foundation of democratic institutions by destroying the electoral process, and discourages foreign investment and undermines the rule of law.

She said the fight against corruption is not only a Liberian problem, but a global one, and explained that every year one trillion dollars is paid in bribes and an estimated 2.6 trillion dollars stolen, adding that the fight against corruption is not an event but a process.

Dolo said this year’s celebration will be held in Bong County.

The celebration begun Tuesday with a football match, and will be followed by a debate and will be climaxed tomorrow, December 9, with a parade along the
principal streets of Gbanga City.
