‘COP22 A Window For African CSOs,’ Says Committee Head
By Ballah M. Kollie from Morocco

MARRAKECH, MOROCCO, November 9 (LINA) - The head of the committee in charge of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) attending the 22nd Sitting of the Conference of Parties (COP) in Marrakech, Morocco, Driss El Yazami, has observed that the meeting provides African CSOs an opportunity to connect to other international networks.

He said this connection will help strengthen implementation of their individual plans and ideas.

The Committee Chair made the observation at a press conference held in the Rabat conference room on Wednesday in Marrakech, Morocco.

CSOs representing Liberia at the ongoing COP22 include the Rural Integrated Center for Community Empowerment (RICCE) and the Society for the Conservation of Nature of Liberia (SCNL).

Yazami indicated that CSOs should now focus on how the world body can strengthen capacity for all of the targeted sectors.

He revealed that in addition to activities taking place in the Green and Blue Zones at the conference, several other activities, including culture performances, will follow in the coming days.

Currently, exhibitions of many kinds are taking place in the Green Zone, while press conferences, meetings and dialogues as well as workshops and many other activities are also taking place in the Blue Zone.

Yazami said while it was difficult to attach number to the representation of CSOs, he was glad that COP22 accepted 16 civil society organizations exclusively from Morocco, adding, COP21 registered and accepted only two Moroccan CSOs.
