Lower House Holds 3- Day Reconciliatory Retreat In Ganta
By: S. Kannay Ziamo, LINA Nimba County Correspondent

GANTA, November 5 (LINA) - Over 50 of the 73 members of the House of Representatives of the National Legislature have participated in a three-day ‘reconciliatory retreat’ in Ganta, Nimba County.

The retreat, organized by the newly-elected Speaker of the House, J. Emmanuel Nuquay, ran from Wednesday, November 2, to Friday, November 4.

Speaking at the retreat, Speaker Nuquay said the gathering was meant to bring members of the lower House together to settle the long-standing conflict that has plagued the House as a result of the recent power struggle that ousted former Speaker Alex Tyler and brought him (Nuquay) to power.

He said reconciliation is important among members of the House because, according to him, “a house divided against itself cannot stand.”

According to Speaker Nuquay, the dispute has the propensity to hold the entire country down in terms of development and implementation of projects that would benefit the very citizens they represent.

He said reconciliation within the House is his first priority as Speaker and therefore he is prepared to work with all parties in fostering genuine reconciliation both at the Legislature and national level.

“This gathering is also meant to brainstorm on how we can work together to provide responsible leadership to our people,” added Speaker Nuquay.

Most of the retreat was held behind closed-door.
