NEC Trains Election Magistrates In Complaint Resolution

MONROVIA, November 2 (LINA) - The National Elections Commission (NEC) has trained 19 Elections Magistrates focusing on its election complaints resolution mechanism.

The two-week training was conducted with the support of the European Union (EU) and the U.N. Development Program (UNDP) Election Project.

It was held in Gbarnga, Bong County from October 17-28 in two phases.

The sessions were geared at building the capacity of Magistrates to effectively hear complaints that might emerge following the upcoming Presidential and Legislative elections in 2017.

In 2016, the NEC adopted Hearing Procedures and Complaint Regulations which spell out the stages of the election complaint adjudication process.

The training was facilitated by the NEC Hearing and Legal Sections and the European Union and UNDP Elections Project Legal Consultant.

It can be recalled that early in August, similar workshops were held for civil society, political parties, and members of the Liberia National Bar Association and senior staff of the NEC.
