Gospel Musician Clampdown On Pirates
By Prince Nagbe

MONROVIA, March 20 (LINA) - A Liberian Gospel musical artist is appealing to Government to clamp down on piracy in order for gospel artists in the country to benefit from their talents and works.

Evangelist Cyrus Townsend made the statement when he presented two international awards he won in Australia to Information, Culture Affairs and Tourism Minister, Lewis G. Brown, at the Information Ministry regular press briefing on Thursday in Monrovia.

Evangelist Townsend said the act of dubbing music produced by artists in the country for piracy was wrong, because it also defrauds the artists and the Government of just benefits and revenue.

The Liberian Gospel icon then called on government and all Liberians to support Liberian Gospel artists, in order to move the industry forward.

In response, Minister Brown said the Government of Liberia will make sure that this unwholesome act on the part of some unscrupulous Liberians is brought to a halt.

According to Minister Brown, the Government through the Ministry of Information will revisit the Copyright Laws which protect the work of artists, in a bid to curb piracy in the country.

The awards presented to Minister Brown are for onward presentation to President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

Evangelist Townsend won the two international awards at a musical festival organized by "Future for the Children" in collaboration with the Liberian community in Australia.
