GBARNGA, October 26 (LINA) - Former Foreign Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan has announced his intention to seek the presidency in the October 2017 Presidential and Legislative Elections.
Speaking at the launch of the Bong Chapter of the "Friends of Augustine Ngafuan" (FAN), in Gbarnga recently, Ngafuan said his quest to assume the presidency is aimed at institutionalizing the culture of integrity in the country.
“I want to see a Liberia where the country’s interest will be placed above self-interest; I am joining the race because Liberia is in it; I owe my best to this country and I call on Liberians to join me make Liberia better,” the former Minister said.
Ngafuan, who also used the occasion to formally announce that he will be running on the ticket of the Victory for Change Party (VCP) of Cllr. Marcus Jones, said he has the competence, character, credibility, commitment, energy and patriotism that the country needs to develop and prosper.
“The only ambition that we are not prepared to compromise is the ambition of the Liberian people for development, prosperity, peace, unity and reconciliation, and I respect all other compatriots who also want to be President,” he noted.
Ngafuan, who resigned from the ruling Unity Party early this year, said his decision to join the Victory for Change Party was based on consultations with his family, friends and followers and also the willingness of the party to overwhelmingly support him.
