Pres. Sirleaf Says PwC ‘Boost To Accountancy In Liberia’

MONROVIA, October 17 (LINA) - President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has officially launched the PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Liberia, a multinational professional services firm, describing it as a boost to accountancy in Liberia.

According to an Executive Mansion release, President Sirleaf made the statement when she launched PricewaterhouseCoopers recently during a ceremony held at PwC Liberia's offices in Sinkor, Monrovia.

"We need to work with you and will make sure it works," she said.

She said PricewaterhouseCoopers' return to Liberia marks a significant development in the government's drive to attract foreign direct investment in an evolving economy.

President Sirleaf added that Liberia has a huge potential for growth due to its abundant natural resources and emerging markets.

The Liberian leader said the PwC will now help citizens file their income return tax as well as help small entities formulate their business plans.

She observed that the government welcomes the initiative and will work with the establishment in realizing its aims.

Also speaking, the President of the Liberia Institute of Certified Public Accountant (LICPA), Mr. Arthur Fumba, who expressed happiness for the launch of the entity, noted that no more would an international accountancy group surface and benefit at the detriment of the people.

He stressed that LICPA will leave no stone unturned in asserting its regulatory authority for the benefit of the people.

In separate remarks, PwC's Regional Senior Partner of the West Market Area, Mr. Uyi Akpata, Liberia's Country Senior Partner, Mr. Taweh Jefferson Veikai, commended President Sirleaf for her exceptional leadership role in the sub-region and on behalf of the people of Liberia.

PwC is an accounting firm which provides services in insurance, advisory and tax services with offices in 157 countries and is among leading professional services network providers in the world with more than 223,468 people worldwide delivering quality services.
