Voter Roll Update Kicks Off In Gbarpolu
By Emmanuel Mondaye, LINA Gbarpolu County Correspondent
Bopolu City, March 19 (LINA) -The National Elections Commission (NEC) has started its Voter Roll Update (V RU) exercise in Gbarpolu County.
At the start of the process, hundreds of citizens of Gbarpolu County Tuesday converged at several NEC registration centers to participate in the exercise.
The VRU is targeting individuals who turned 18 years old since the last election in 2011, those who have lost their voter registration cards and others who have relocated from one part of the country to another, since the last polls.
Gbarpolu County Election Magistrate, Duke Sarnor, told the Liberia News Agency (LINA) that the ongoing exercise which ends Thursday, will afford registered residents the opportunity to vote in the upcoming senatorial elections slated for October this year.
Magistrate Sarnor, however, said that two centers located in Totoquelle and Gbaryema towns will remain open after the three-day period, to afford people living in that part of the county the opportunity to register.
He warned would-be contestants to desist from trucking people to the county to register, simply because they need their votes during the upcoming election.
