CESTOS CITY, October 10 (LINA) - Rivercess County Superintendent Matthew Zoegar Daniels has temporarily ordered all pit saw operations ceased in the county with immediate effect until a probe is conducted into a complaint filed by four logging companies alleging encroachment into their areas.
The complainants are the managements of E and J Logging Company, Liberia Tree Trading Company (LTTC), Forest Venture (FV) and International Consultant Capital (ICC).
They claimed in a joint complaint to the county leadership that the pit sawyers were encroaching into their concession areas.
In an interview with the Liberia News Agency recently, Daniels said his administration has decided to halt all pit sawing activities to allow it look into the claims of the companies.
Daniels indicated that because the matter is of grave concern to the leadership, all chain saw operators were advised to stay away from all forest in Rivercess until the investigation is completed.
He noted that the companies pay taxes to government and are also saddled with their corporate social responsibilities to the county, adding that “their plight needs to be addressed.”
According to him, the managements of those companies and the pit sawyers have already been notified to present themselves for the investigation at the county administrative building Monday.
