Rivercess Official Decries Rape Compromise
By Togar Christian Chea, LINA Rivercess County Correspondent
CESTOS CITY, October 5 (LINA) - Rivercess County Gender Coordinator Henry Jabbie has vowed to forward to court for prosecution anyone caught compromising rape cases in the county.
He told the Liberia News Agency in an interview Tuesday that certain individuals have created an environment where rape cases are not prosecuted and perpetrators go with impunity.
Jabbie indicated that rape cases are usually compromised at the district level, adding that “the compromise of rape cases is impeding the administration of justice.”
He pointed out that there are presently only two Magisterial Courts in the county which, according to him, are not enough to handle rape and other cases.
He said because of this, commissioners, paramount and clan chiefs establish makeshift courts to adjudicate cases.
According to Jabbie, no citizen has the right to handle rape cases that should be prosecuted by a court of competent jurisdiction.
