UPP Says Ready To Lead Liberia’s Transformation
By Joseph G. Toe

MONROVIA, October 5 (LINA) - The Standard-Bearer of the United People’s Party (UPP) has said the party is now ready to lead the transformation of Liberia into a prosperous 21st Century nation.

MacDonald A. Wento to a press conference at the UPP headquarters in Sinkor Wednesday that corruption, lack of adequate basic social services, jobs and functional healthcare system were some of the problems impeding development and growth of the country.

“We are the party of change. We believe that these problems can best be resolved by a disciplined and responsible government, under a UPP leadership,” he added.

He noted that in a bid to transform the country, the party will effectively manage the natural resources of the country and develop the country’s economic infrastructure to a competitive level for global trade.

He indicated that the party will invest in human resource development that sustains an effective economy and public sector and work within the current concession agreements to secure the best opportunities for the Liberian people.

Among other things, Wento stated that the party will rebalance Liberia’s diplomacy and make it work for domestic development, while deepening her historic ties with the United States of America.

“We will improve public safety and security, as well as strengthen regional and international relations,” he added.

The UPP Chairman admitted that the party has “for some time now” been quiet, but was quick to point out that it did not walk away into the quiet doom of history.

“We birthed multiparty democracy in this country, with blood, sweat and tears. So, we cannot abandon this cause for which we stood and allow it to be derailed,” he stated.

He continued: “Just as we brought an end to a century of one party rule in Liberia, so shall we wipe the tears from your eyes and change your sorrows into joy.”
