Liberian Media Must Ensure Peaceful Transition in 2017 - GC Official
By Stephen N. Sonpon

MONROVIA, October 4 (LINA) – An official of the Governance Commission (GC) has observed that the people are counting on the Liberian media to protect the gains they have achieved and help ensure a peaceful transition in the country come 2017.

The GC Director of Communication Janet Johnson said media reports “could enhance a peaceful electoral process or undermine the peace we now enjoy.”

In an interview with the Liberia News Agency Tuesday, Johnson said the profession of journalism calls for independent, balanced and accurate news reporting as well as in-depth investigation and mature analysis.

She indicated that the best journalists are those who are able to influence positive change in the interest of the people in any society.

Johnson emphasized that the media is responsible to report the truth and exhibit fairness in their work, adding that journalists must be mindful of how they report during the ensuing presidential and general elections.
