Lawmaker Urges Gov’t To Prioritize Capacity Building

By Calvin Brooks

MONROVIA, March 18 (LINA) - Maryland County Representative, Dr. Bhofal Chambers, has stressed the need for government to pay more attention to building the capacity of Liberians.

Dr. Chambers observed that if the capacity of Liberians is built, they would be given priority in managerial appointments and other positions in foreign concessions operating in the country.

The Maryland County Lawmaker told the Liberia News Agency Monday, that the welfare of Liberians should be given first priority in any concession agreement, noting that the people should benefit from their natural resources.

He observed that though government needs foreign investment to boost the Liberian economy, improving the living condition of the people should be taken into consideration when contracts are being entered into.

He said the development of Liberia depends on the Liberian people, and hence government should work in the interest of its citizens who are the key stakeholders.

Representative Chambers emphasized that Liberia’s development agenda would not be realized if the citizens’ capacity is not built to hold major positions in concessions operating in the country.
