Rep. Kollie Opts For Legal Remedy In House Crisis
By Wilfred Gortor

MONROVIA, September 28 (LINA) - The leadership crisis at the House of Representatives is leading to more discontent among members, with Lofa County Representative Moses Kollie vowing to seek legal remedy to the problems in the House.

Kollie is unsatisfied with the action of Deputy House Speaker Hans Barchue and 48 other members of the House who on Tuesday signed a resolution to remove House Speaker Alex Tyler.

He also expressed discontent over the recent action by Barchue to relieve him of his post as Chair of the Committee on Ways, Means and Finance.

Kollie told journalists at the Capitol Building on Tuesday that Barchue, who is currently the Presiding Officer of the House, is leading the body into political turmoil as a result of the manner and form in which he is presiding.

Kollie thinks that the action taken by Plenary against Tyler and others is “unconstitutional” and so proceeding to court is the last resort to remedy the situation.

"Barchue has proven that he is unable to govern the House," Kollie said.

He argued that the rules governing the House did not only call for a two-thirds majority vote to remove the Speaker, but also for the body to ensure that due process is given to an accused person.

"We will proceed to court and make our case. We will make sure that this country remains a country of law," Kollie pointed out.
