Bong Teachers Defy NTAL Boycott Call
By Philip T. Singbah, LINA Bong County Correspondent

GBARNGA, September 26 (LINA) - Amidst calls by the National Teachers Association of Liberia (NTAL) for public school teachers to boycott classes, an official of the Bong County School System has said normal academic activities are continuing in the county.

County Education Officer Edward Kpulun said contrary to the call, all public school teachers are administering lessons at various public schools around the county.

Mr. Kpulun indicated that students are also attending classes in their numbers despite the pronouncement by the NTAL.

The Bong County Education officer noted that all public school teachers have been instructed to attend classes and that the Ministry of Education will not hesitate to take action against teachers staying away from the classrooms.

At the same time, our reporter who visited some major public schools around the county Monday confirmed that teachers were in classes.

In a release issued over the weekend, the NTAL called on all public school teachers to lay down their working tools in the 15 counties until Education
Minister George Werner and the Superintendent of the Monrovia Consolidated School System Aldophus Benjamin Jacobs unconditionally resign.

They accused Werner and Aldophus of violating the Revised Education Laws of August 2011 and the 1964/1965 Act that created the Monrovia Consolidated School System.
