High Court Slaps Cllr. Gould With US$500 Fine
By Ballah M. Kollie

MONROVIA, September 24 (LINA) – The Supreme Court has fined Counselor Theophilus Gould US$500 for a statement he made that the court views as threatening to jurors during the trial of a case on mercenarism at Criminal Court “D.”

Jurors are hearers of facts who aid judges in determining judgment in cases.

Court record quotes Cllr. Gould as telling jurors hearing the mercenary case that if they acquitted the 13 defendants (Grand Gedeans), Ivory Coast would declare war on Liberia.

He has been ordered to pay the amount into government account in 73-hours or risk further action.

Cllr. Gould was one of the government lawyers prosecuting the 13 alleged mercenaries in 2012.

The Supreme Court, however, found nine of the accused guilty and acquitted four others in its opinion in the case.
