MIA Official Urges Liberians To Sustain Peace, Security
By Calvin Brooks

MONROVIA, September 22 (LINA) - The Executive Director of the Peace-building Office at the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has challenged Liberians to sustain the peace and security the country currently enjoys.

Director Edward Mulbah noted that sustaining Liberia’s peace and security is the absolute responsibility of every Liberian.

He made the statement Wednesday at a program marking the celebration of International Peace Day held at the Monrovia City Hall.

“ Peace is not just about putting weapons aside or the silence of guns; peace is about building the society in which we live free from poverty and sharing the benefits of prosperity,” he added.

He noted that it is only by working together based on the principle of social justice that Liberia can remain safe and peaceful for current and future generations.

Director Mulbah challenged both old and young people to help government find lasting solutions to problems that continue to pose challenges to obtaining lasting peace.

This year’s International Peace Day was held under the theme “A time for peace, rejecting violence to secure human rights.”

International Peace Day was declared in 1981 by United Nations General Assembly Resolution 36/67.
