MONROVIA, September 19 (LINA) – About 253 partisans of the United People’s Party (UPP) are expected to converge on Monrovia to participate in its two-day 5th National Party Congress.

According to a UPP press release, the participants will include 108 delegates from across the country representing the 15 political sub-divisions and 73 electoral districts.

The congress runs from Friday, September 30, to Saturday, October 1.

The release stated that at the Congress, the delegates will discuss rebranding the party as well as its preparation for the 2017 Presidential and Legislative Elections.

The Congress will also resolve all constitutional issues affecting the forward march of the party, elect all of its Executive Committee members, review and approve for adoption the party’s national program, budget and platform that shall be submitted to it during its regular and special sittings.

The Congress will further review and resolve all other matters that shall be brought before it by the Executive Committee, the release said.

It stated that during the Congress, the Party will align its constitutional and organizational structures to conform to the new elections law approved on September 29, 1986 and amended on January 29, 2003 and December 23, 2004.

The Party, according to the release, will ensure it conforms to the requirements relating to the registration of political parties and independent candidates as well as with the requirements of the Act to amend certain provisions of the 1986 elections law, approved and published by the National Elections Commission on September 17, 2014.
