Police Note Drop In Motorcycle Accidents, Crimes In Nimba
By S. Kannay Ziamo, LINA Nimba County Correspondent

GANTA, September 19 (LINA) - The police detachment in Nimba County has recorded a drop in the rate of accidents and criminal activities by motorcyclists in the county over the past year.

The police also indicated that commercial motorcycle activities in the county have grown by up to 90 percent.

In an interview with the Liberia News Agency at the weekend, Nimba County Deputy Traffic Commander Sergeant Wilson Z. Nyanamah attributed the decline to vigorous training of motorcyclists by the police and their willingness to identify and expose criminal hideouts.

Although Nyanamah stopped short of disclosing the number of accidents and crimes in the past 12 months, he indicated that police assessments of those cases showed a significant reduction as compared to the previous year.

According to him, motorcyclists in the past were perpetrators of many violent and criminal activities, and made specific reference to the burning of government and private vehicles belonging to the United Nations as well as setting ablaze police stations and private homes and properties.

Nyanamah said the level of improvement in commercial motorcycle business in Nimba indicate the need for more engagement between motorcyclists and the police and other stakeholders.
