First Defense Witness Testifies In US$126k GT Bank Theft Case
By Ballah M. Kollie

MONROVIA, September 15 (LINA) – Defense first witness in the GT Bank US$126,219 theft case, Stanley Yorsee, has confirmed that deposits made by Total Liberia Incorporated on May 28 and 29, 2015 were not part of deposits verified on the stipulated dates.

Taking the witness stand at Criminal Court “C” Thursday, Yorsee said during his regular check on the indicated dates, it was discovered that the amounts totaling over US$8,000 were not posted into the company’s account by teller, co-defendant Montmorancy Yancy, who received the amount from the bulk teller for posting.

Defendants Yancy and Yorsee are charged for theft of property, misapplication of entrusted property, criminal conspiracy and criminal facilitation.

In their June 21 indictment, the Grand Jury of Montserrado County said between the period May 28, 2015 up to and including June 29 of the same year, co-defendant Yancy, while serving as a Teller at the bank’s head offices in Sinkor used his position to criminally and intentionally conspire with Yorsee to steal the amount of US$126,219 intended for deposit into Total Liberia Incorporated account at GT Bank.

Defendant Yancy has, however, contested that he was not the sole signatory to the bulk log as his colleague Jestina Boakai also signed during the periods specified, but wondered why she is not being interrogated like him.

Defendant Yorsee will continue his testimony on Friday, September 16.
