Defense Minister Admits Son Involved In Shooting Incident


MONROVIA, September 15 (LINA) – Defense Minister Brownie Samukai has admitted that his son has been arrested by police for his alleged involvement in a shooting incident on a local beach.

The incident which reportedly occurred on Tuesday, September 13, left one Zardee Andrews injured and later hospitalized.

“As a responsible adult citizen, my son (Michael) will bear the full consequences of his action,” a Defense Ministry release Thursday quoted Minister Samukai as saying.

It said he described the incident as "sad, unfortunate, condemnable and lawless."

“On Tuesday, I received with shock and dismay the news of a shooting incident involving my son Michael Samukai at a local beach in Monrovia,” Samukai said.

He added: “As a parent, I expressed my deepest regrets to the victim, Zardee Andrews, and his family for this very unfortunate incident.”

Samukai noted that as a clear demonstration of his utter disapproval of such unwarranted action on the part of his son, he has taken some positive steps which include visiting the victim at the hospital and wishing him God’s speedy recovery.

“I pray and wish the victim of this unfortunate incident speedy recovery and at the same time assure fellow citizens of my regret for the sad, condemnable and lawless incident,” he stressed.
