GBARNGA, September 14 (LINA) – The Liberia National Red Cross Society (LNRCS) has ended a three-day camp conference and media campaign on human rights and gender equality in Sanniquellie, Nimba County.
The conference brought together 100 volunteers from Lofa, Bong and Nimba counties.
Speaking to the Liberia News Agency following the conference on Tuesday, LNRCS Focal Person Ambullai Perry said the exercise was funded by the European Union and co-funded by the Danish Red Cross.
Perry said the program was implemented in close collaboration with key ministries and agencies of government, including the Ministries of Gender, Children and Social Protection; Justice and the Liberia National Police and Independent National Commission on Human Rights.
According to Perry, the objective is to promote human rights in rural communities by strengthening gender equality and reducing discrimination, gender-based violence, and vulnerability.
He noted that the Red Cross will create the platform for community dwellers and students to share their experiences, knowledge and lessons with government and other stakeholders.
Perry said the engagement will help to promote human rights and reduce discrimination and gender-based violence in communities and schools.
The LNRCS Focal Person urged young people to denounce violence and join the Red Cross to promote peace in their respective communities.
Also attending the conference was the EU Program Manager for Governance, Mr. Eric Kristensen, who reiterated the EU’s support to LNRCS in undertaking sustainable livelihood programs and peace building initiatives across Liberia.
