Dunah Wants House C’ttee Leaders Reprimanded
By Wilfred Gortor

MONROVIA, September 14 (LINA) - Nimba County District #7 Representative Worlea-Saywah Dunah has called on Plenary to reprimand the leadership of the House Committee on Ways, Means and Finance for their "inability to perform statutory duties."

The Nimba lawmaker described the committee’s failure to provide quarterly financial report to members of the House as reneging on its duties to prepare the House budget.

Dunah said such act violates Rule 57.4(b) of the House of Representatives which charges the committee with the responsibility of preparing, taking custody of and disbursing the House funds.

Dunah contended, in a communication addressed to Presiding Officer Hans Barchue on Tuesday, that the committee’s failure is also a breach of Rule 54.4(h), which mandates the Committee to present to the House a written financial report every three months.

He said the inability of the committee to present a fiscal report for 2015/2016 has incapacitated members of the House from knowing the status of the finances of the House for the entire period.

According to Dunah, Representatives have not also received copies of the 2016/2017 budget, raising the question of accountability because it appears to be a deliberate action by the committee's leadership to keep the Plenary in doubt of their finances.

Dunah wants the Plenary to also set up a select committee to work with the Finance Department to prepare and present to members of the House the reports of the four quarters of fiscal year 2015/2016 along with all attachments.

He is also recommending that Plenary directs the preparation of the House budget and submit it for review so that same can be passed along with the 2016/2017 annual budget.

Meanwhile, the body has accepted the communication from the Nimba lawmaker and is expected to act upon the recommendations as was proposed in a motion filed by Montserrado County Representative Acarous Gray.
