‘Liberia Is On Sound Democratic Trajectory,’  VP Boakai

MONROVIA, September 12 (LINA) - As Liberia prepares for the 2017 general and presidential elections, Vice President Joseph N. Boakai has observed that the country is on “a sound democratic governance trajectory.”

Vice President Boakai, who is Standard Bearer of the ruling Unity Party, said his optimism about the nation's positive governance path is backed by evidence of the inflow of positive record breaking developments occurring of late in Liberia's political arena.

Vice President Boakai made the observation in Bensonville, Montserrado County over the weekend at an occasion marking the endorsement of his presidential candidacy by the opposition National Democratic Coalition (NDC) party.

He thanked President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf for “her critical role in elevating Liberia's national political discourse” by maintaining free speech as well as illuminating the nation's image on the international stage.

Boakai described the move by the NDC as a "welcome endorsement," which he wholeheartedly accepts, assuring that he remains conscious of the huge responsibility it carries.

"Today, we find ourselves caught in such a momentous history-making scenario that can hardly be described. This is such a breathtaking development that it so remarkably humbles me," the Vice President said.

He wants the endorsement accorded him by the leadership of the NDC to be backed by all of the necessary support that they have to help share the common direction in the healing, reconciliation, love and the reconstruction of Liberia.

The Vice President affirmed that he sees the endorsement by the NDC as “a giant testimony of trust and confidence in his experience, loyalty and commitment to the nation.”
