Health Ministry Begins Evaluating External Health Promotions
By Stephen N. Sonpon

MONROVIA, September 10 (LINA) – The Ministry of Health has begun the evaluation of external regulations for health promotion in Liberia, the ministry’s Head of Health Promotions, John Sumo, has said.

Sumo told the UNMIL radio morning talk show “Coffee Break” recently that the evaluation forms part of the implementation of International Health Regulations (IHR) to build a resilient health system in the country.

Sumo indicated that the purpose of the evaluation is to prevent, protect, control and provide an effective response against the spread of diseases.

He said the IHR helps develop guidelines, technical materials and training, and fosters networks for sharing expertise and best practices.

According to him, it also helps strengthen the abilities of vulnerable countries to detect, assess and respond to public health threats.

The IHR is an international legal instrument that is binding on 196 countries across the globe, including all member states of the World Health Organization intended to help the international community prevent and respond to acute public health risks.
